The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra is pleased to announce their 2026 Scholarship Recipients:

Logan Holly is an extraordinary young man. As a violist and already an accomplished musician, he was instrumental in starting a guitar class at his middle school, wrote a few pieces of music for his middle school orchestra, and performed as principal violist for the Junior Honor Orchestra. Finding that DHS didn’t have a string program, he reached out to C.J. Birch, our conductor at the time, who urged him to join the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. His first concert with the Pops was the 4th of July concert before his freshman year at DHS, and he has been with the orchestra ever since—logging nearly 400 hours of rehearsal time. While at Douglas High School, Logan has been involved in the Block D Letterman’s Club, inducted into the DHS National Honor Society, and was a member of the DHS Football and Ski Teams. Logan will graduate from DHS with an additional Associate of Business degree from Western Nevada College through the Jump Start Program. He plans to attend UNR in the fall and obtain a degree in Finance, with his long-term goal being acceptance into law school. If time allows, he will continue playing with the Pops through college and then again after law school.

Jackson Northcutt is a senior at Douglas High School. He plays the French horn in the DHS Wind Ensemble while also enrolled in a strenuous academic schedule (Calculus, Spanish, Human Anatomy, Economics, English, and Biology) maintaining a 4.3 GPA. Jackson was inducted into the DHS National Honor Society where he has been involved in multiple community service events. Jackson began playing the trumpet in 5th grade, switched to the French horn in 8th grade and has been a member of DHS wind ensemble for his entire high school career. He joined the Carson Valley Pops in November of 2025, as a member of our horn section. He hopes to continue playing in musical groups in college. His goal is to return to the Carson Valley after finishing his studies, and he has promised he will return to play with Pops! Jackson will attend Washington State University where he will pursue a degree in biology with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. He has always had a profound desire to make the world a better place, and through his love of animals and desire to keep them healthy, he understands how for so many they do make the world a better place.

The Carson Valley Pops is the community orchestra of Douglas County, Nevada performing regularly in the Minden and Gardnerville areas, and offering scholarship monies to local student musicians.
